RSPCA
West Dorset Branch is a
separate charity affiliated to the Royal Society for the Prevention of
Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA). We cover the towns of Dorchester,
Bridport, Weymouth, Portland, Lyme Regis, Charmouth, Sherborne and
Axminster (Devon) as well as all the surrounding villages and hamlets.
Our main priorities are the welfare and rehoming of local animals.
We raise our funds within the Branch boundaries and all money raised is
spent within the area. We are responsible for "Taylors Animal
Rehoming Centre" at Kingston Maurward, Dorchester. |
|
If you wish to report an
Animal Emergency or have concerns regarding the welfare of an animal
please telephone 0300 1234 999. Please also call this number if you
need to have an unowned or wild animal collected by an RSPCA Animal
Collection Officer.
PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL US
REGARDING EMERGENCIES OR CRUELTY AS THIS IS NOT THE MOST EFFICIENT WAY
OF DEALING WITH SUCH MATTERS. CALL 0300 1234 999 AND REPORT THE
MATTER TO THE RSPCA NATIONAL CALL CENTRE. THANK YOU.

Rabbits and
Guinea Pigs for Rehoming
On this page
are details of the rabbits we currently have in need of homes
For full details of the adoption process, please
PLEASE think carefully before
taking on a rabbit as a pet. Rehoming Centres all over the country
are absolutely over-run with unwanted bunnies. We have a massive
waiting list of rabbits to come in to the care of the Branch - we simply
cannot take them all as we do not have the facilities. There is a
tendency for people to think of rabbits as good pets for children, they
are quite simply not. They have a tendency to scratch and bite
(especially if mishandled) and as we all know 'the novelty' soon wears off
and the rabbit is condemned to a life of misery in a hutch at the bottom
of the garden. Rabbits deserve better than this. Of course,
rabbits can make lovely pets for responsible owners, if you are sure that
you can give a pair of our bunnies the kind of life they deserve then we'd be
very happy to hear from you. Click

Hi my name is Hannah, and I am the Animal Care Assistant who looks after the
rabbits and guinea pigs at our Centre.
These are the animals in my care this week. Please give us a call 01305 259672 or visit the Centre at the above times if you are interested in any.
We do recommend that ALL rabbits should be neutered especially females, as they are at risk of ovarian and womb cancers if they are not.
Rabbits are social creatures and should be rehomed
in pair or to live as a pair - our Rabbits will be homed in pairs,
or to make up a pair. A pair of rabbits require a minimum cage floor area of 1.65 m / 18 ft square with a height of 75cm / 2ft 6 inches.
A pair of guinea pigs require a cage floor area of
0.74 m / 8 ft square with a height of 37.5cm / 15 inches. Consult your vet for further advice. |
