RSPCA West Dorset Branch is a separate charity affiliated to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA).  We cover the towns of Dorchester, Bridport, Weymouth, Portland, Lyme Regis, Charmouth, Sherborne and Axminster (Devon) as well as all the surrounding villages and hamlets.  Our main priorities are the welfare and rehoming of local animals.  We raise our funds within the Branch boundaries and all money raised is spent within the area.  We are responsible for "Taylors Animal Rehoming Centre" at Kingston Maurward, Dorchester.

If you wish to report an Animal Emergency or have concerns regarding the welfare of an animal please telephone 0300 1234 999.  Please also call this number if you need to have an unowned or wild animal collected by an RSPCA Animal Collection Officer.

PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL US REGARDING EMERGENCIES OR CRUELTY AS THIS IS NOT THE MOST EFFICIENT WAY OF DEALING WITH SUCH MATTERS.  CALL 0300 1234 999 AND REPORT THE MATTER TO THE RSPCA NATIONAL CALL CENTRE.  THANK YOU.

Voluntary Positions Available

The Committee of the RSPCA West Dorset Branch consists entirely of volunteers.  We are always in need on new active supporters who can help us to help the local animals.  If any of the following are of interest to you please telephone us on 01305 259672 or Email mail@westdorsetrspca.org for more details.  Please note that all of the below are voluntary jobs, but the payment of knowing that you are doing something out of the kindness of your heart to help local animals should not be underestimated.

Trustees

The West Dorset Branch currently has vacancies for several trustees.  Do you want to use your skills to help local animals?  Please do consider becoming involved.

To become a Trustee you need to be at least 18 years of age, and either be a current member of the RSPCA, or willing to join.

Trustees are the people who lead the charity and decide how it is run.  Being a Trustee means making decisions that will impact on animal's and people's lives.

Many of your skills and experience could be  valuable in running the charity, ensuring that its aims and objectives are met.  Trustees also have the opportunity to learn new skills.

Relevant skills and experience include admin, business, retail, animal based skills, fundraising, computer skills, customer service, finance, legal, secretarial, human resources and much more.

You can find out more about the main duties of Trustees here - https://www.gov.uk/guidance/charity-trustee-whats-involved#trustees-6-main-duties

We know that it can seem a bit daunting at first, but no one is expected to immediately take on the role.  If you think you may be interested, please do contact us.  We would be delighted to meet you for a chat and you would be welcome to take time getting to know the other Trustees and gaining an insight in to the running of the Branch before deciding if the role is right for you.

You need to live within driving distance of Dorchester for the monthly meetings (which are held in the evening at Taylors re-homing centre).

Please email Susan on mail@westdorsetrspca.org  for more details or to express an interest in the role.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS AN UNPAID / VOLUNTARY POSITION

Fundraiser

We desperately need more fundraising help - unless the money comes in we can not help continue to help the animals, it is as simple as that!  Fundraising for the West Dorset Branch can take as little or as much of your free time as you have to spare.  Even if you could only help for a couple of hours a year we'd be thrilled to hear from you - check out our events page and let us know if you'd be available to assist with any of these.   If you have a bit more time to spare to help the animals perhaps you could become more actively involved, we need people to organise events in all parts of our Branch area, small Coffee Mornings in your village, plant sales, jumble sales, collections at your work place, quiz evenings - anything at all!  If you feel this is something you could do please contact us and we will do all we can to assist.  Never feel that you can't do enough - it is a sad fact that people wiling to help with fundraising are incredibly few and far between and a little help goes a long way.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS AN UNPAID / VOLUNTARY POSITION
